The Lone Star Trail Building School (LSTBS) is a two‐day course conducted at Sid Richardson Ranch (SR2) near Runaway Bay, Texas.
The Basic Course will educate students on all aspects of trail building including design concepts, GPS mapping, corridor flagging, and construction.
The school also offers an advanced course which includes topics such as armoring, switchback turns, climbing turns, crib walls, wooden construction, and rigging techniques to move large objects. However, we only teach one advanced topic each year so we can lead students from the design process to finished construction.
THIS YEAR'S ADVANCED COURSE TOPIC
This year's project will be a bit different than years prior. You will construct a boardwalk supported by the surrounding boulders. You will learn how to set anchors into stone, attached the support structure and finally the tread. This is a on-site custom cut project to match the contours of the rock.
ONE FEE MAKES IT EASY
The Lone Star Trail Building School is all inclusive. One fee covers lodging, meals, instruction, and building materials. Lodging includes air‐conditioned cabins / dorms, and meals are served beginning Saturday morning until Sunday Lunch. Saturday night we lead a night hike through a small canyon with large rock outcroppings and once that is completed, we all relax around a large campfire and share stories from the hike and events earlier in the day.
Trail Solutions book is no longer available from the International Mountain Bicycle Association (IMBA) as part of the course; however, it can be ordered from amazon. https://amzn.to/2EwtJwi This is the trail building bible.
